Hi All,

I am very glad to release our first premium theme for BuddyPress. The theme I am Introducing today is Bp Mag. Bp Mag is more than a normal theme you have seen for BuddyPress. It is a theme framework for the development of BuddyPress based sites. It allows you to customize your site in your very own way. I had put all the efforts to make it possible for customizing every aspect from child theme’s functions.php than copying the template files and the feedback till now have been very positive. So, I am finally putting the theme here.

Introduction:-

BP Mag is a BuddyPress Theme framework for Building your very own special social network. It has the unlimited potential to extend upto any level. The main goal of bp-mag was to provide a basic framework and allow to extend it using child themes with very few lines of code. And it does. With a few lines of code magic, you can manipulate the whole layout and build almost any sort of layout on it. Further, It uses the current features available in wp 3.0/3.1(trunk) and leverages the core of BuddyPress.
And in case, you don’t want to build the child theme, well bp-mag is itself a complete theme with many more flexibilities as shown below.

• Hook based profile page, change the order of any element of profile page
• Hook based group page, change the order as you want
• and so on…the list is a little bit long to put here.

After 3 weeks of introducing this plugin as beta, I am glad to put it as stable today. There have been many enhancements and bugfixes based on the feedbacks of everyone at forum. special thanks to @Greg for reporting the bugs and asking for features.

I am glad to announce the “Global forums Plugin” for buddypress today. It is available now  and this post is aimed to show you what this forum plugin is meant for and what it can do.

The global forum Plugin allows you to create sitewide forums(as you see in bbpress) which are not linked to any group. It works just like standalone forum with the exception of a few things(like template/plugins). Thanks to @Greg for bringing the idea of global forum in buddydev forum and here we have it.

• And most of the thing which you expect from bbpress is available.

Let me show an example from my dev system.

Here is the home screen for the global forum

So, the home screen is just like a normal standalone forum where you get the list of all the forums/subforums and the latest discussion topics.

If you are an admin/mod you can see the tab which says admin. I will go into details of admin section later.

Users can create new topic from forum home or from any of the child forum screen.

You can post new reply/manage topic from here.You can make a topic sticky/unsticky, close it/open it and many more from any of the topic page. From the topic page, you can also add/delete tags.

If you go to a particular sub forum, It will list all the child forums of that forum and the most recent discussions in that forum as shown below

For each of the tag, we get a tag page which lists all the topics containing  that tag as shown below

Now let us have a look at the admin screens. When you click on Admin tab at the top, you will be presented with the admin dashboard which shows a concise view of forum stats and let you perform various admin task. here goes the dashboard.

From the admin screen, you can create new forum/manage forums, manage users and perform some other task.

Forum Management page allows you to edit/delete/add new forum.

Edit forum:-

You can edit a forum title/description/parents from Manage forum. Click on Edit forum under the forum name and you will be presented with a screen like this

If you decided to delete a forum, you can always move the topics to some other forum or just opt to delete entire forum andtopic.

You can add new forum from manage forum page or  from the  Create forum page as shown below

User Management:-

You can manage users from the user management page. you can ban a user, promote to mod/promote to admin and demote to normal users. Banning will stop the user from creating topic/posting replies. Here is a shot from my dev. You can see the banned user has a distinct color code.

Limitations of Global forum:-

• Currently you can not manage users in Bulk(i.e Can not ban 10 users by checking the box, It is coming in next version)
• Some of the features may not be perfect
• Code is not organized well, I will be organizing them properly in next release which should be next week
• And I forgot to include the rss feed support, so It may come tomorrow

I promised in the beginning of Buddydev for this plugin, so I got some time yesterday and made it work.

Buddypress recent Profile Visitors Plugin shows the most recent profile visitors on a user profile. The profile visiting recording can be turned on/turned off by a user.

here is a screenshot to show how it looks.

If you don’t want to show your visits to other user’s profile, You can disable from the settings->Recent Visitors options as shown below

Please note, if you turn off the profile visits, It will not show you who visited your profile. I just wanted to make it fair enough, so it is mutual, if you want to see who visited your profile, keep the settings on. Once you turn the settings off, It will not record any data for you.

The settings are user specific.

How to Install

1. Download the plugin from here http://buddydev.com/download/recent-visitor-for-bp.zip
2. Unzip recent-visitor-for-bp.zip
3. Upload recent-visitor-for-bp folder to wp-content/plugins
4. Go to Wp Admin->Plugins->Installed and activate “Bp Recent Profile Visitors”
5. Let the plugin do its magic.
Alternatively, you can use wp-admin->Plugins->Add New, click on the upload tab and browse this zip file, upload and click activate, you are done.

How to Use

If you are using Buddypress 1.2 default theme or the Buddypress child theme for bp-default, The recent visitors are automatically displayed at the profile using the action hook “bp_after_member_header”, otherwise, you can always call

visitors_show_my_recent_visitor();

It will list the most recent 5 visitors

Well, thanks goes to mercime for the idea of this plugin. As he suggested to create something which will allow site admins to anonymously do updates/testing on site without appearing in the recent online members list/ who is online members list.

So, I came up with this plugin, called BpDev Stealth Mode for Site admins(s)

What It Does

• It allows Site Admins to control whether they want to appear in the online members/ recently active members list or not.

How It works

• When A user logs in, If the User is one of the SiteAdmin(In case you have multiple site admin account), The plugin puts the User in Stealth Mode. Here stealth mode is nothing, but simply stops buddypress for recording the last activity time of the user.
• From the admin bar drop down, the site admin and turn off/on the stealth mode.  The stealth mode will be toggled and the user will be redirected back to the page, where he was earlier.

Installation

1. Download bpdev-stealth-mode-for-siteadmin.zip, if you have not yet downloaded

2. Unzip the plugin

5.  Activate “BpDev Stealth Mode for Site admin” Sitewide

How to Use

When You are logged in as one of the Site Administrator, you will see and extra menu appearing in the admin bar. Here is a screenshot.

By clicking the option from Drop Down, you can toggle the stealth mode. here is what happens, if you toggle the stealth mode.

You will receive a message, something similar to the above and will be redirected back to the page, where you had tried to toggle the option. You can see from the drop down, that the option is toggled .

Note: Please Note, for every time, a site admin is logged, the stealth mode is always set to On, so you must disable it from the drop down to appear in the who is online widget/ recently active members list.

Another Alternative, with less features

Ok,  Now for all of you who have yet not joined, buddydev Premium, well, you can use an alternative.

Put this code in bp-custom.php and None of the site admin activity ime will be recorded.So if you are a site admin, you will never appear in the Who is Online/ recently active members widget.

Update: Due to some improvements as suggested by mercime and Bowe, The release is delayed by 1-2 days now. I am sorry, But I need to make sure everything works perfectly before going live and the most important thing for me is ensuring high performance and better code. Bp Gallery is the ultimate photo gallery plugin for your buddypress site. Currently, there exists no comparable gallery plugin at the moment for buddypress. You will love the features. Let me point now.

Those are just the bonus stuff and this is not all the features list, I will update this post again tomorrow with more features, Once I am done with the gallery, documentation/demo.

We are almost there with the gallery.Because of the requests I got via email and comments. I have decide to extend the version 1.0. It will now incorporate following features too

• Gallery Can have multiple admins/users who can upload files
• Gallery can be associated with Buddypress Gropus
• You can create audio/video/image gallery
• It can be extended to add any type of media(It may be your doc file or what ever) using custom plugins
• A gallery can be associated with any entity be it group/event or what ever(Group support is inbuilt)
• You can upload files as usual or just use links for the gallery media content
• High level of privacy settings
• and there are a few more options which will allow its wide adoption

If you are looking for a demo, It will be available by 1st January 2009, and The gallery will be available for public download then.

A few other features, I am working, but Not sure will be able to accommodate or not in version 1.0

• Zip upload (say you upload a zip file containing images and It will be  automatically added to the gallery)
• Image tagging(The difficult part is detection of correct face/object though)
• Rating of media(allow rating by other users)

Here I present you another small but nifty plugin. We call it “BpDev Sitewide Footer Content” plugin. It will allow you to add some html/javascript or text/image  or what ever you want at the bottom of each page of  your WordPress Multisite. It is a sitewide plugin and ads the text/code to each and every page of the site(including all the user blogs).

What It Does

• allows WordPress mu site Administrator to add content which will be displayed at the bottom of each and every page of the site(including all user blogs)
• If you have BuddyPress, the content will be shown at the bottom of each and every BuddyPress page(directory/profile etc)

Why Use it

• You may give a unique branding on each and every page on the site
• You may add scripts to collect stats about the whole site
• or you may think other usage(like showing links for sitewide privacy policy, tos /advertisement etc)

That’s it. Alternatively you can use ftp to upload the unzipped directory “bpdev-sitewide-footer-content”   to wp-content/plugins or wp-content/mu-plugins.
If you upload to wp-content/plugin, this plugin must be activated sitewide. If you have uploaded to mu-plugins, you don’t have to activate, It is activated automatically site wide.

How to Use

1. Login as Site administrator

2. Go to SiteAdmin->Options, here you will see something like this

Insert The text/html/javascript  and click update Options.

That’s It, you are done. Now the code will be active/shown on all the site pages.

Again, we are back with another plugin/widget to enhance your wordpress Mu site.

The widget “Bpdev Recently Updated Blogs“  widgets allows site owners to show the most recently updated blogs on the wpmu blog network.

You can customize the title of the widget and the number of blogs you want to show. Further, for the current version, you can either show the blog description or hide it.

Installation

1. Use The ftp to upload bpdev-recently-updated-blogs to wp-content/plugins
2. Activate it in dashboard->Plugins->Installed
3. Go to Appearance->Widgets and Drag “Recently Updated Blogs” to the widget area you want.
4. Rename the title and set the other options if you want
5. Go and check the site . It should be able to show the list of recently updated blogs

Auto activate users accounts when the create a new account and log them in directly.Then redirect them to their profile.So it simply does following

Buddypress Signup page->Click Complete signup->User account is activated automatically->User Is Logged In ->User Is re directed to their profile

I have seen so many people asking for a plugin which will allow their users to select a theme while they signup for a blog /create a blog on a wordpress mu /buddypress powered site.

Here is our plugin BpDev Slect Blog Theme at Blog Signup which precisely does the same.
It shows users the list of available themes for them and allows them to select the one they like.

Installation

1.Unzip bpdev-select-blog-theme-at-blog-signup.zip

2.Upload the folder ‘bpdev-select-blog-theme-at-blog-signup’ to wp-content/plugins

3.Login as Site admin,go to Dashboard->Plugin->Installed

4.Activate “BpDev Slect Blog Theme at Blog Signup”, click activate sitewide

5.Enjoy!, yeh, that’s it.

Please note, you must enable the themes you want to allow users to select from the SiteAdmin->Themes

Customization

To make it blend correctly with your theme you can do some css styling. I have not auto included the css, as It gives you independence to make it look as you want.

If you want a simple, easy looking, as shown in the above screenshot, here is the css for that. Include it in your theme css.

Faq

Do I need to call any function in my registration page

As long as you are sticking with standard actions, you don’t need to call anything manually.

In case, if the theme list is not shown at registration page, please check , do you have the action “bp_after_blog_details_fields” called in your theme.
