  1. Hi, I've installed the bp mag theme, and would like to get the slideshow working like I saw on the demo, but I cannot figure out where to access it. Does anyone know how to activate it and how to put it on a site?

  3. Hi Baba , Frank,
The slideshow you see there is dynamic content gallery widget. you can download it from here
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/dynamic-content-gallery-plugin/

There is no specific slideshow widget for Bp mag, you can use any of the wordpress slideshow widget for the time being, I used dynamic slideshow.

  4. Thank you for that info - it's a great theme for a webzine like mine, and I guess I assumed that the theme would look like the demo 'right out of the box', lol.

  5. I do have a further question, though, and maybe it's just an unfamiliarity with BP in general, but how do you get the slideshow to appear on your home page?

The Dynamic Content Gallery FAQ says just put the following code on the page you want to put the slideshow on:

    <?php dynamic_content_gallery(); ?>

Where exactly do I put this code to get the slideshow to display on my home page? The DCG FAQ says to install it to the 'appropriate theme template file' (I think they mean 'folder' instead of 'file'). With bp mag, where does the code get installed?

thanks very much for your help.

  6. I guess I am confused because with Buddypress, the line between a webpage and a blogpost is totally blurred. I know how to put something on a home page, but I have no idea how to find the 'index.php' template file within WP.

If I could relate my web developer skills to Buddypress skills, I could navigate all this much more easily.

  7. Ok, I got it to work! I installed the slideshow gallery pro plugin, and then created a new page in WP and clicked on the 'insert slideshow' icon above the text window (putting in "[slideshow]" in the text window doesn't work, despite what the plugin FAQ says). Then I went to the 'slideshow' button that appeared after installation on the left below the 'settings' button, and set all the preferences, uploaded images, etc. It works!

The Dynamic Content Gallery plugin was WAY too complicated for me. This one works for my skill level.

It seems that you can input any html you want when you create a page, and add to the existing bp mag layout with your own stuff. I can't yet figure out how to add widget items to the LEFT side of the page in a 2-column layout, but I did figure out that you can go into your server site and modify a number of files in the bpmag folder that control colors, layouts, etc.

    Really neat stuff.

  8. Hi Baba,
Please do not modify the bp mag theme directly. It is supposed to work as parent theme and you will loose the changes in upgrade if you change the original theme.

Please check the documentation section of Bp mag theme for creating child theme and making changes.

I just released a slideshow widget too today, and That is very easy to configure. May be that can solve your issue.

Please have a look at the version 1.0.2 here
