  1. Hey BRajesh, you have done an awesome job with the bp gallery plugin. The best photo plugin currently out there. And here are a list of some changes which i have noticed, if made... will make your plugin invincible and future-proof... am sure everyone else out here can add to this list based on their experience too:

#1: Rating each album, and also rate each photo

#2: Flag each album and photo

#3: For groups, even though am not a member of a group, I get an option of creating and uploading pics into a gallery! I can create a gallery… but I cannot upload a pic.. gives an error message. So, it would be better if i should not be able to see a "create" links there in the first place.

#4: In a group, if I create a gallery, other members of the group cannot delete or edit the gallery, but they can add more "pics" into the gallery. Well… there should be a feature wherein, the creator is allowed to select whether or not he would want others to add pics into it. If no, then the others should not get to see an upload option. And if yes... then the creator should be allowed to select whether or not he would want to get notified when someone else uploads the pic.

#5: In continuation of the above problem, it looks like if a group member tries to upload pics into a gallery that was started by someone else in the group… then, after uploading the pics the uploader kinda stalls.. It doesn’t go into the "edit media" tab.. because the edit media tab is for ALL media, and this guy can edit only his pics. You can solve this by either removing the link for others to upload pics into someone elses gallery, or solve this issue with uploading. I vote for removing the permission to upload into someone else's gallery

#6: Once I've uploaded some photos, I should be able to delete it from the place that says "Edit Media"… but this is not available. There is currently a delete in the gallery album main folder… and if you have the permission to delete… you'll see this link over there... but it should actually be in the same place where you can edit the stuff

#7: I should be given the permission to create a new gallery in a group that I am a member of. Create a whole new gallery of mine own, that no one else can touch.

#8: When I click on delete, it direclty deletes the pic without a warning/confirmation

#9: When I click on a gallery, and its photos open up… if I have the permission… I see a link for "upload" in the upper right corner, I want to see a link for "edit" too… which has to go to the "edit tabs" screen. Currently there is an edit option that lets you edit the details of the gallery (name and description)

#10: Upload for "cover image" is possible from backend, but we should also show what is the CURRENT cover image so that user can make an informed choice.

#11: everytime I upload new photos into my gallery, my choice of "album cover" gets removed… and if I don’t select a cover again, then I have a blank. Can this be avoided, and the choice of cover remain and will be changed if only another option is selected.

#12: Instead of having a separate place for "cover photo", why cant we upload the cover photo from the place which says "edit gallery" itslef... because anyway we're displaying the cover photo over there.

#13: In edit media, when I upload a lot of photos, my "save" button comes all the way to the bottom… at that point, when I click on save.. I get a confirmation message, but at the top of the screen.. Would be nice if I got one at the bottom too

#14: When we are seeing the gallery photos (one at a time: the final step), there is a next and a previous option.. But it would be great if I can also have a (2 of 14) numbering in there… of the number of photos, and which photo you're currently on.

#15: When I see galleries within a group, I want to be able to sort them by most viewed, latest, most number of photos, and by "tag"

#16: Similarly, when i see galleries within a particular user, i want to be able to sort them by most viewed, latest, most number of photos, and by "tag"

#17: Each album to have "tags"

#18: Each photo to have "tags"

#19: When I don’t have any galleries in my group, if I have the permission, it asks me to "create new gallery"… but once I create atleast 1 gallery… I no longer have a provision of making new ones. (Can be overcome by simply placing the create_button link over here too)

#20: if two files are uploaded with the "same file-name", then it needs to check to ask the user if they want to replace: yes or no… if no, then it should append the file name and create a new one

#21: in the user galleries main display page where all the glaleries are showcased, if you leave the page while on "my galleries"… and then later on click on user galleries in the main menu… when you come back the tab you were on last time is open by default... but the "focus" is on the main tab... so, if you click on the main tab again, then it is set right.

#22: if admin is deleting a gallery, or a picture or making any change for that matter… on a groups album or an individual album, the user who created the album must be notified and algo given a detail as to what action is being performed, and why.

#23: In the space to enter the "gallery description" when you create a new gallery, would be nice to have a WYSIWYG box instead of a place textbox… same is the case with the description boxes for each photo too.

#24: in the form to create a new gallery, if I leave the "title" empty the form doesn’t submit… but doesn’t give me an error message either… ideally, an error message should appear asking us to fill out the title.

#25: sometimes when user create galleries, if they create the gallery name and description… and don’t upload any pics in it… even then it appears as a gallery that has been created in the user galleries page… so, before it appears in the gallery page, we need to put a check to make sure the number of photos are more than 0 before letting it appear over there.

#26: in the main user gallery page, where all galleries from members and groups are listed… ability for a filter list for most viewed, or latest
in the main user gallery page, where all galleries from members and groups are listed… ability to limit the number of words of the description that will appear to 20-25..

#27: in the main user gallery page, where all galleries from members and groups are listed… a filter which tells me whether an album is by group, or by member.. and further gives the name of the group or member.

Please do add to this, as am sure everyone here can contribute and add to making the PERFECT PHOTO PLUGIN FOR BUDDYPRESS.

Good Luck Brajesh... you are a champion coder, and if you can do these things, you would have made one hell of a product that will stay on forever.

    Cheers,
    Sid

  2. Hi Siddharth,
wow! very comprehensive list and echoing all the features everyone suggested in pat(Though, I had lost track of some of them). Amazing job in putting it all together.

I am not promising all the features implementation in next release, but yes, Most of what you have suggested will come. I am implementing some of these and have already some of these implemented. The gallery for bp 1.3 will be quiet different from current version. I will be opening a new group for gallery discussion soon(for bp 1.3). Please do not forget to check back and give your feedback/suggestion for the features :)

    2. Friends
    3. ONLY VERIFIED USERS

  6. Hi brajesh, I ve goto another suggestion, and really needed on my dumbproof site.

When an user register, it should be created and default gallery, one for video, one for photo and one for audio, then if user has got the icons from the first time, He will be able to upload everything without create before a gallery, after he can edit that default...

what do you think, it will be possible to be implemented or should i try to do myself?

    Great job.

  7. Thankyou all. The BP Gallery next generation(well, I am borrowing this term from some of the top gadget manufactures) will be 20 times more powerful and feature rich than the current gallery. And yes, I am not adding too much code, Just 1-2 % increase in base code :)

    @bluelf,
That functionality is possible even with the current gallery. I had put the code about an year ago for the same in the forum here. I am unable to find that.

In 1.1, yes, It will be admins choice and take just a click to have that option :)

  8. I am looking forward to BP Gallery Next Generation @sbrajesh :-) Thank you.

BPG-NG is slated for BP 1.3, right? I hope I'm wrong but I heard something about BP 1.2.9 first.

    Posted 11 months ago #
  9. Hi Mercime,
Thanks. Yes, there seems to be a 1.2.9 but I really hope that the core devs will provide a beta release as soon as wp 3.2(30th June) comes out. Let us hope for the best.

    Posted 11 months ago #
  10. Not too thrilled about BP1.2.9 but really excited about BPG-NG! (Nice tag, btw, @mercime).

  11. hehe yeh, that's a cool name @mercime :)

  12. The last release of BP doesn't work with the WP 3.2 betas, because of the new WP dependency on PHP 5. Does the BP 1.2.9 release work with WP 3.2?

    Posted 11 months ago #
  13. Hi TJ,
The problem is not the PHP5 dependency(there are 1or 2 issues though I remember with php5) but most issues are because wordpress 3.2 includes jquery 1.6.1
    http://wpdevel.wordpress.com/2011/05/25/jquery-updates-in-wordpress-3-2/

That change in the way attributes are handled are causing more trouble.

    Posted 11 months ago #
  14. I guess my question still stands. Given that we're supposed to have a WP 3.2 release in 9 days, will there be a BP release that supports it?

    Posted 11 months ago #
  15. Hi TJ,
I believe Yes. We will have a Bp release to support it.

  16. Hi brajesh, Ive got an suggestion, could it be possible something that detects if you are running on iphone for uploading purposes? because you have to disable the flash upload if im not wrong and its kind of bad for mobile users!!!

    Thank you

  17. In addition to all Sid's excellent requests above, I have one more simple feature I'd like to see in the next generation of this great plugin:

The option to turn on/off member galleries and only have group galleries.

If you really want to go to town, you could also add an admin option to do the same for group galleries, an on/off option.

    Keep up the great work.

  18. hey @sbrajesh any news on when the gallery plugin could receive an update... am sure we'll all be very very excited to see what lies in store...

    looking forward to hearing back,
