  1. Hi Brajesh,
Until I get a chance to inspect the new magazine style themes you're working on, i've been learning based off of cosmic buddy. i've been trying to accomplish a few things and wondered if you had suggestions.

    1. Trying to add a 300x250 ad block to sidebar. I've added the block but of course the sidebar is only 270px wide. How many places would I need to edit to fit that in? I would think that if i modify the width of the sidebar, but then I realized that it also wouldn't line up with the header and the footer. can you tell me how many spots i'd need to change the width or an easy way to do this?

    2. bbpress integration. I'm probably going to have to go with the deep integration method like you did here. How hard is it to theme bbpress to match the rest of the site? Is it possible to tell the bbpress index page to use something like a page template or do you have any suggestions?

    3. I noticed on another site, the site wide activity widget seems to display less info than my install. They are using another theme so I wondered if there was anything in the theme that is dictating how much info to show in that. The site is http://gameserfs.com.

Thanks for all your help and I'm really looking forward to getting to play with the gallery and the new magazine themes. I'm learning a lot by modifying CB but it might save me some time when I can see your new theme. Any way to get a screenshot or something to see if I should continue working on CB?

For the record, CB is one of the best/most versatile themes I've found so far for buddypress. The only things that so far I seem to be missing are:

    1. ad blocks- 468x60 ad blocks in header and body, 300x250 ad block in sidebar or widget.
    2. image resizing and automatic image grabbing in either body or attached image. I've been using get_the_image from justin tadlock and it works well except that his code displays the full size image in a thumbnail if you use it on the front page. For example if I have a 2mb image linked in my post, the image size of the thumbnail on the home page will show as 2mb rather than taking that 2mb image and using something like timthumb to resize it and display it on the home page. This would save quite a bit of load time.

An example of a theme that I was trying to "buddyize" was The Stars at http://www.premiumwp.com/demo/thestars/. I'm not sure how close you are to releasing the themes but I'm curious to any of your inspirations or thoughts on that.

Thanks again for all you do!

  2. hi Chris
    Thanks for the post.
well, here is the screenshots of the current theme(css/xhtml is complete)
    Home Page:-

    Blog Page
    http://buddydev.com/files/2010/01/blog.png
    Profile Page:

    Directory page
    http://buddydev.com/files/2010/01/group-dir.png

Please note we have used only 2 images as background, one pixel for header and 1 pixel for navigation background, rest all are just colors to give you more flexibility changing the theme, and yes, this theme can be used as parent theme.

The top slideshow will change, we have got a far better slideshow script.

    For cosmic Buddy modifications.
You will have to modify css only to accomplish the changes.
Changing the header/sidebar/content size will require 3-4 changes in css(where the width is specified).

The Bp Mag theme will be released after 2 days of gallery, as I have the css and everything, but currently all my efforts are on gallery.

and Thanks for the comments about CB, in next release we wil try to take it to the next level.

I will post again about the Deep Integration.

  3. For bbpress Deep integration
Yes, you can theme bbpress, It is not difficult to do. The only problem is there are no enough documentation about it.

Bbpress has its own templating system, and you can create new template to match your site. Just look at the default theme.

For rest, please let me know your view about the new theme, I will go into more details then.

    Thanks

  4. That looks really great Brajesh! I like my options with those screen shots of the new theme. Is this going to be a 1.2 theme or a 1.1.3 theme? Just need to figure out at what point you quit supporting and go forward to only 1.2.

  5. Is it time for me to upgrade my install Brajesh? Is this new theme now going to be only 1.2 or is this going to be a 1.1.3 theme? Since most of my site relies on cosmic buddy or bp-magazine and gallery, i'm pretty much tied to upgrading my site based on what your products are going to support.

    Thanks again.

  6. hi Chris
The new theme will support bp 1.2 only, yes cosmic buddy will support 1.1.3 and an upgrade will support 1.2
My advice for now, If you want, upgrade on your test install, but do not upgrade the live site, because the bp 1.2 beta is not stable enough for now.

    Thanks
    Brajesh
