Hmmm. This site seriously needs a reworking. Just asking for help in the forums gets me confused. I don't know where or how to start. Anyway, I installed the gallery, but I can't get it to work. I once installed bp kaltura gallery plugin. Well it didn't work also but at least an option appeared in the profile bar. Whereas this gallery nothing appears in the profile options. I am using bp social. Made some modifications. Does this work only with the default buddypress theme? If so, what do I need to do to make it work?

Agreed with you about the reworking, and I have even answered it on your comment. It will be after mid of feb to end of feb.1. The current gallery works with buddypress 1.2 Rc1(or above) and bp-default template.
Is social theme updated for bp 1.2.
2. Are you using buddypress 1.2(rc or above)3. Links should show, if you are using bp 1.2 new theme structure.
Once stable is out, you can use the template tags and the api to modify the template to suit the social theme. I won't be able to provide gallery template for social theme, as I don't have access to wpmudev premium. If you need other assistance, please let me know.
Thanks

At the moment I am using bp 1.1.3. I cannot as of yet update even my wpmu because I am afraid that it might cause some issues with some of the plugins that I am using.

You're facing the same issue that I faced. I finally updated my site and delayed launch because my key feature that I need is media galleries so I updated my site so that I could work with this. You're also going to find that most plugin developers aren't going to provide backwards compatibility for updated plugins so you should start investigating when would make the most sense to upgrade.

Won't this plugin be backwards compatible with bp 1.1.3? Am a little frustrated. I really thought that this would be backwards compatible at least with 1.1.3. I am not sure I like the structure of bp1.2. Been in the test drive and of course the profile page and the groups are not as emphasized as in bp 1.1.3. I still have to do a test install of latest wordpress and buddypress. I'm also waiting for the compatible version of bp social. Dunno, but I've been looking for a decent gallery plugin and I think my site will not need any upgrade. It serves my purpose just fine. Second, when will the upgrades ever stop. Of course, there is need to continuously develop wordpress but I don't think i can afford to join the bandwagon everytime. I am not a coder. I am a simple teacher collaborating with a talented student and we're trying to work out a site that the school can use. Am really frustrated. Still no luck after all.

This plugin will be backward compatible only if a few more members/users are going to ask for that. My worry is related to the commenting feature, which has changed drastically from bp 1.1.3 to bp 1.2(there are no more wires, it is all activity). rest will be easy to make back compatible. They have simply dropped the support for wires. So we have to live with this fact(or use the back compat plugin, and As a developer, there is no point in supporting outdated software(because it saves a lot of time)).As far as your question about wordpress is concerned, I don't expect it to seize development in next 2 years. It will become more mature(It is already though) enough but They will continue to enhance it and keep it updated.
I understand your problem as a user, but this is the problem you will face with most of the opensource projects which are under active development and wordpress is no exception.
For you, My advice is
I will refund to your paypal account if you can't use gallery for now. Just drop a line here. That will at least save your money for now. Once bp social is updated for bp 1.2 and you have moved to bp 1.2, you can come back and subscribe again to get the gallery. Thanks

I should say you are too good for your own sake. Thing is, I am not an...(not sure if this is the right term) opportunist. I know how to recognize good work when it has been done. Besides, not sure, but I think I am using one of your free plugins. Even if I can't use the gallery now and even if I have limited resources, I strongly feel that I ought to give back to the community also. I am not a developer, as I have mentioned. The least I could do is support people like you. Yeah I kinda feel bad, but it's ok. Am sure, things will also turn around for the better sooner or later. Keep up the good work. P.S. Perhaps I should also give bp 1.2 a chance.

Hi jgrandrea, I encourage you to give bp 1.2 a chance. In addition to the BP-Gallery plugin, once BP 1.2 stable is out, and BP-Gallery is set, I have no doubt that Brajesh will be whipping up some great BP 1.2-compatible themes which you could use in your site.
Ah, didn't mean to put any pressure on you, Brajesh, LOL.Posted 2 years ago #
