I would like for my members to be able to write blogs. I would like to know how I add a blog tab to my menu and a blog link to the users profiles so they can write and read each others blogs. Thanks.
Faster, better and easier!

hi kevbow
You are on wordpress 2.9.2 right. So I guess you want to show link to the blogs which are not hosted by your site(but user's own blog/site)
How about simply creating a xprofile group called blog and allowing user to enter their website. well, that was the easy approach but may not be what you are trying to do.
Or another option would be using buddypress link plugin and restricting user to create only one link ? Buddypress links is a very nice plugin, but It may not be worth to use this plugin for a single link per user.
I am working on a plugin which does something(not this but most part of that can be used in this plugin(It will be like show a link/allow to enter url etc and so).
So, if you don't want to go xprofile way, please let me know, I will put this as a plugin for you.
Thanks

No. Not users own blog sites. I don't have a blog menu tab on my website. http://www.vapersplace.com I notice many other buddypress websites have a blog tab that you can click where you can view members blogs that they have written. There should be a blog selection in my members profiles for them to be able to write a blog post and there isn't. Not sure why my buddypress doesn't have this. Where and how do I get this on my website? Thanks for your help.
You either need to be in wpmu 2.9.2 or you'll need to upgrade to 3.0 which adds blogs to the single version. Most of the sites you see are on wpmu and not single version wordpress. Hope that helps.
I currently have wordpress 2.9.2 and not wordpress/mu. I found this link http://wordpress.org/development/2010/05/wordpress-3-0-beta-2/ Is this what I need to install and is it just like installing a plugin or is it more involved. I'm an amature wordpress user at best. Thanks.
Do not install WordPress 3.0 beta 2 yet. Most BP and WP plugins are not compatible with that version yet. Therefore your site will lose some features/functions if you upgrade to WP 3.0 at this time.
ok. Are there currently any plugins available that would give member a way to create blogs that you know of?
No. It's a feature of multiple user or multisite. You'll just have to either migrate to mu or wait fr 3.0. Sorry.
Yeah, it's a pity that http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-quickpress/ is not working in current version.
Just thinking that if that plugin is updated, you could add that to user's profile page ala Ning, and users would be able to blog post and their posts will appear along with your posts in /blog. Then when you go multisite, you could just export XML per user and import to their respective blogs.
If you want their posts to appear with yours, you can use tdo miniforms for them to post from the front end and you can configure it to put posts into a community category. That might be a temporary solution until you update.
I have upgraded to wordpress 3.0 and buddypress 1.2.4. I was told on the buddypress forums that I need to enable wpmu http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network in order to allow my members to write and post blogs. Is this correct?
Hi kevbow, if you want your users to have individual blogs within your site
e.g. http://www.yoursite.com/memberblog1/ OR http://memberblog1.yoursite.com/
then yes you can create the Network.
But if you can also keep it single site WP 3.0 and have multiple authors posting on the front-end via http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/jet-quickpress/ OR there is also an alpha(for testing) release of http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/one-quick-post/
You must log in to post.
