Plugin Request: Featured Forums

1. As long as we're on a roll with the non-group join plugin...make you have some thoughts about a Featured Forums plugin.

   The concept is this: A site really has 2 kinds of forums. One type is large, general, and meant for everyone to participate. The other type is small, specific, and tied to the subject of a specific group.

   Most Sites would have some large, general forums (like Support forums).

   Ideally, on the Forums Page, there would be Featured (or General) Forums at the top, in their own table) and Group Forums below them just as they are now.

   Site Admins would just check a box next to which forums should be featured.

   This would be hugely popular as many buddypress users are unhappy with how forums are displayed. And, it would be much more user-friendly because this would be the type of layout that most members and visitors would expect.

   These 2 plugins would bring the best of bbpress and the best of buddypress forums together.

2. Well, How about Independent forums which will not be associated with groups and using them as featured forum.
   No one will need to join the forum as all members will have access to the standalone forum.
   We may add membership management later.
   We can create Independent forum from the same install of bbpress which is used by buddypress and then do something like
   say "test" is an independent forum. so you can view the test forum on
   site.come/forums/test(as it is the case with the standalone forums, They will seem like standalone forum but in fact will be child forums of the main bbpress install).
   What do you think of them ?

3. Would they share the same tag cloud as buddypress forums?

   And, it would be nice to be able to "move" existing discussions.

   But...yeah...that solution would be awesome. Best of both worlds...

4. Yes, they will share the tag clouds, nothing about moving the discussion at the moment, but I guess, It won't be difficult thing to do.

   let me try my hands at it, I am feeling sleepy now, as It is 5 Am here but let me see If I can wake for an hour, I can do it today :)

6. Brajesh,
   if you can come up with a forum plugin that allows us to have the benefits of group forums without forcing users to understand the new structure, you can give me the link to sign up again for another year. This is something that I've been trying to figure out since it almost takes a developer to understand the new structure and I believe regular users won't understand it. It sounds like if you could bundle the rescue me plugin along with featured forums, you would answer ALOT of peoples forum requests and would attract a lot of new members.

   hahaha, Yes, I will come up with the Global Forums plugin today after finalizing the release of(you know which one, bpmag :))
   And you will not need to signup again, It will be all here for you :)
