I was just wondering if anyone was using a slideshow with gallery. if so, would they mind sharing how they got that to work? :)

Just re-asking this. I tried Pretty Gallery & Jzoom, and they do a slideshow AFTER you click on the initial gallery, but I was wondering if there was a way that a slideshow would just start displaying random images on the homepage... just as ning does, etc.

Hi Shane, do you have a preferred slideshow script ? I may put the code for that.

Hi Brajesh. I really dont know much about slideshow scripts. I like the way PrettyGallery looks. its just that I was looking for something that would do it automatically on the homepage, like how ning does.
so that maybe a widget could contain the slideshow that would automatically just show random public images from users galleries. it would stay in the page wherever the widget is, but it would just show random images.
do you think thats possible?

Hi Shane,
Using PrettyGallery will not be a good thing, as It is a lightbox and not a normal slideshow. It may be annoying for users If we trigger it on site load. Instead I will look around a few scripts and will put a few examples once I finish the gallery this weekend.hope you won't mind that.
Thanks

Anything like this?

Its just a test page I've created, as in full page, but sure it would be easy to incorporate into a plugin?Ben

Hi Ben,
That Looks Nice. Specially the sidebar icons linking to images in the slideshow :)The only thing which may be a trouble is our old age flash vs. javascript battle :)

yeah true brajesh
try this, This is a simple html, But as being html it will be easier to add the js, That way it'll act like my flash 1

I think i need to test out a few ideas and see which would work better,
I like the way of the flash layout, ie: on the sidebar, but they can be on bottom or top, So I'll try sort my html one out and add the js to show it like the flash gallery.Posted 1 year ago # -
would they be able to be put into a widget so that it can be displayed on front page? and also would it be able to change pics on its own.
I just googled ning sites, and found the link below, they have a photo section in which the photos just spin through all on their own... most ning sites have the same setup. thats how I meant.. unless it would make the page take alot longer to load. so the slideshwo coudl be right on front page and not need user interaction to start. :)

@shane
My 1st link is able to change pic's on there own, i got it set at 4 seconds as soon as you click play (but that can be auto),
It's just a basic app i did for my website to test in flash,
But should be quite easy to include into a plugin,
I'll also try to do the same version in js,
They would be displayed like that,But I'll do it once you scroll over the pic,
Instead of just showing ff, bk, pause, It'll have a row of previous-next pictures,
Kinda like youtube videos when you scroll over them if you move the pointer to the right it shows you the videos to the right, Same for left,
I gonna try do that for the gallery too or something along those lines,
Well try I'll keep posted for how it goes in my spare time.Posted 1 year ago # -
Thanks. yeah that would be great. I think the automatic slideshow is something that would be a great addition to the gallery. :)

@Brajesh & Shane
When I finish my current project, I'd love to help work on building sliders for gallery. I'm pretty new to .js, but have been working very hard this past month learning my way around.
One 'issue' I have come across that I don't currently have a good solution for is handling page load times on gallery pages.
If I could only find a way of making my js script only load the first picture or two in the series while the page is loading, and then load the remaining pics in the background it would really help.
A simple gallery page of only 10 100k photo's takes way to long to load using standard js gallery techniques.
By any chance has anyone come across a good js gallery script with a 'post loader'? --maybe some dom tricks?
I'm NOT looking for a plugin, just a good base js script to use where I can build the slider out myself.

That would be cool. I Appreciate that alot. Cause i think the slideshow is needed :) cause alot of people are used to ning sites, and they always have a slideshow.

Any movement on this?
I'm looking to implement a slider on my main page (that does not show on any other pages or is configurable)I have a classifies site that uses a JS slider but I dont know enough to decode it.
that is sort of what I had in mind but of course without the text, just images but i'd be willing to entertain anything.
