BuddyBlog Group Type Commenting

BuddyBlog Group type posts work great for me, but I am having issues with the display of comments. Users can add comments on those posts in both the main feed or group feed (of my Buddyboss site), however they don’t display when published. All I see is the name of the commenter but not the actual content of the comment. If I then open the group post, those comments display properly. They also display properly on the BuddyDev Published tab of the group. It seems to be only on both feeds (main feed and group feed) that they do not display correctly.

Update… After I created a comment on the post (from the post and not the feed), a duplicate entry is now displayed on the feed. That second entry is displaying more like a standard WP post and the comment contents are visible. This is the way I would like it to work. Thanks for looking at this.

    Hi Aaron,
Thank you for posting the issue and I am sorry we could not assist earlier.

This is a BuddyBoss bug and not ours. We do not control what and how the commenting works in their stream.

Our plugin creates post type entry and assists BuddyBoss record it to the stream. Whether you can allow comment on it or how the commenting on custom post type will work in activity stream is managed by the BuddyBoss(Their activity settings screen has the options).

This behaviour is not specific to BuddyBlog, It will happen for any custom post type.
I wills suggest either disabling commenting on blog posts in stream(this is the default behaviour in BuddyPress) or report it to them to see if they have any suggestion.

    Regards
    Brajesh

Thank you Brajesh. Can you point me in the right direction to hiring BuddyDev for some custom work/development. I am confident that the simple tasks we are trying to implement are not difficult. I’m not sure if we are going about this the right way. Thank you.

Thanks Brajesh. I have filled out a request form (fyi). Regarding this issue of commenting, I am in desperate need of some help. I shared your feedback with BuddyBoss. Their team has replied with the following (including the video). I don’t understand if I have done something wrong with my settings on these Group Posts or if this is a bug. Are other users able to display comments on group type posts? Here is the info from BuddyBoss. I hope this helps you suggest a solution. Thank you.

“I have added a custom code to add a new custom post type and comment only when your buddy blog group plugin is activated. You can look at this screen recording – https://www.loom.com/share/4c175a86e9044a339020518c3fe81b2c

The issue happens only with your buddyblog group custom post type. Also, WordPress default post, group feed, news feed, and all comments are working except your buddyblog group custom post type. The issue is only on your plugin post type.

If the buddy blog team follows the WordPress default comment system, it should not affect their post type. Even their plugin is affecting in other new custom post types, which I showed in my above video. You can show the video to the buddyblog team. You can tell them all post type comments are working even wordpress default post type except their post type.

    Best regards,

One note of clarification – The BuddyBlog Pro posts work perfectly. I need the group ones to work exactly the same with the simple addition of being attached to the group. Thank you!

    Hi Aaron,
    Thank you for the patience.
I have investigated it and I am seeing the reason.

The problem is BuddyBoss’s bp_disable_blogforum_comments() method works incorrectly if the activity component is not set to ‘blogs’. It does not check if the commenting is actually disabled for the post type unless the component is set to blogs. In our case, the component is set to ‘groups’ and that’s why.

We can filter on bp_activity_can_comment to provide a fix as I don’t have much hope from their support.

Please allow me couple more days to put an update without having any side effect.

    Thank you
    Brajesh

Thank you so much for your help! I want to let you know that I have completed the form for custom work. I would truly appreciate the opportunity to discuss our minor needs with a member of your team. Because I don’t have the technical expertise, I suspect your team would know right away what is the best way to achieve our simple goals.
