I run a affiliate program and I created a unique buddypress field called (referrer ID) = field_7189

Now the affiliate url being shared is https://site.com/sign-up/?ref=mike

When new referrals visit the page https://site.com/sign-up/?ref=mike I want the affiliate username (mike) to be automatically inserted into the buddypress referrer ID text field = field_7189

The problem now is when users visit the url https://site.com/sign-up/?ref=mike, the affliate parameter (?ref=mike) is being removed immediately from the url leaving only https://site.com/sign-up/

Please how can I achieve this
