[Resolved] BuddyPress Activity post and preview of links

    Hi everyone,

    I have a question related to Activity stream and Link previews.
    We are using MediaPress with BuddyPress. When we make a post with link only we get a nice preview of a link. On the other hand, when we post a link with some textual content, preview of the link does not appear. Please examine the example below.

    1st post, top one – example with link and text afterwards (no preview available)
    2nd post, middle one – example with link and text before (no preview available)
    3rd post, bottom one – example with link only (preview available)

    I would like to have the behavior where in all three cases there is a preview available, followed by a text. Is there a way to accomplish this easily, with some hook or filter?

    In all three cases, are you posting the link using MediaPress? or are you putting link inside the content?

    In all of the cases I was putting a link inside of content.
    Hopefully, this is something that can be accomplished?

    Hi Milan,
    Try entering the link on a new line.

    The oembed should parse it correctly. It the content and link are on same line, It does not get parsed properly.

    Please give it a short and let me know if that works for you or not?

    Hi Brajesh,

    I have a quick followup question.

    Seems like that we are getting previews only for links which are from our own web site (our domain). If I try to make a preview for any other external link it is not working. Is there some kind of settings needed to preview external links or how can we make this functionality work?

    Hi Milan,
    The previews are available for any oembed supporting site.

    For example, if you add a video from youtube or vimeo, they should show the preview.

    Hope that clarifies.

    PS:- all WordPress sites act as oembed provider, that’s why internal links are showing preview.

    Yes, this makes sense, thanks.
    I will close this ticket now and if I notice possible issues with links from oembed providers I would report them in separated ticket.
