Tagged: group hierarchy, subgroups
I am looking for a solution to create subgroups inside BP groups.
E.g.
Group A contains subgroups 1 and 2, group B contains subgroups 2, 3 and 4 etc.
The context is e-learning: dividing the group into smaller groups in order to facilitate discussion and collaboration. For example to have parallel forums for each group.
How could I achieve this?
As far as I understand Member types pro is a sitewide solution; this would give me an endless, non-hierarchical list of groups, so I am not sure this can be a solution.Any ideas?
Hi Hugo,
There seems to be 2 options1. Group types:- Group types are like categories. They are not groups. They are terms under which you can classify the groups.
2. Using a plugin which allows selecting a group as parent groups. There are a few alternatives here

https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-group-hierarchy/I will suggest trying the first and see if that works for you.

BrajeshHi
I’m using the BuddyPress Create Group Type plugin at https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-create-group-type/ and it works perfect for my situation!

I’m afraid this path won’t help me. Like Brajesh said, group types are not groups but categories.
What I am looking for is a way to create subgroups *inside* a group in order to achieve scenarios like
– all subgroups share the same documents, the same course etc.
– each subgroup has its own forum.I guess I’d better find a way to create forum-specific groups, not Buddypress subgroups.
Thank you both for your suggestions anyway.
Hi Hugo
Ok, I get that. I would like that as well, especially your first point about “all subgroups share the same documents, the same course etc.”. I would like to give the admin of the parent group the possibility to write a message to al members of the group + sub groups.
If you find a solution please let me know 🙂
Speaking of point number 2 “each subgroup has its own forum”, then it is possible with the group category solution.
