Could it be that there is a bug in your code? While having registrations open a new user will get that email with the activation link. He/she clicks on the link but is redirected to wp-login and not going to the activation page.

Hi Hans,
It is happening due to a change in BuddyPress and how they send activation link. Earlier, The activation link was sent ashttp://example.com/activate/?key=something but it has been changed to http://example.com/activate/somekeyname and that’s why.
I will post an update soon.
