    Hello boss, i want to make a 16 man tournament board where users would see their names and can the names of other contestants and can click it and be linked to their buddypress profiles

    I haven’t used any plugin for similar purpose in past, so I am unable to suggest.

    You may want to give a shot to the plugins from this page

    and see if any of them suits you.
