Hi,
After updating the “BuddyPress Private Message Rate Limiter” plugin to version 1.0.8, we’ve noticed that the “What message you want to display if the user reaches the limit?” field was reset to the default message (as well as all other settings being reset to default). While this is okay, the error message shown when a user reaches the new message threshold, is the customised message we had previously entered before updating (e.g. “Please try again later.”). Any attempts to edit the “What message you want to display…” field do not update the message shown to the user. Could this be due to the plugin settings being moved to its own page, when it was previously within the BuddyPress settings page?
We’ve also noticed that the “Hide message button?” setting hides the message button from user’s profiles, but not in other places (e.g. the members directory) when the new message threshold is reached.
We’re using the Gwangi theme, and BuddyPress version 10.6.0. We’ve cleared all caching to ensure this wasn’t a factor, and we are not using any translation methods for this plugin.
Thanks.
Hi Nifty,
I am sorry for the inconvenience. We introduced a new settings panel and it seems that it did not work properly. Can you please update the settings from the new panel and see if that works?
Regards
BrajeshHi Brajesh,
Thanks for your reply.
We’ve tested changing the settings in the new panel and while the settings entered appear to be saved in the backend, it is not reflected in the frontend. For example, we’ve also changed “How many messages a user can send?” and “During the time?” from 5 to 3, but we’ve still been able to send 4 new messages. The “Hide message button?” option seems to be the only setting that when changed, is reflected on the frontend (except the message button is still visible in the member directory).
Thank you.
Hello Nifty,
Thank you for the acknowledgement. I have tested the plugin and it is working fine please give it an another try with different settings. Also, BuddyPress does not show private message button on members directory it is your theme that is adding this button on directory so please contact theme for the issue as they can help you in a better way with this issue.

RaviHi Ravi,
We’ve tested this again, and the issue still remains. If you update the plugin from the previous version (1.0.7), it appears previous settings are still enforced, and changes through the new settings panel don’t work (e.g. the “What message you want to display….” field). Any changes to settings in version 1.0.8 are only respected when you install version 1.0.8 as a fresh install. That is, even if you delete version 1.0.7, and then install version 1.0.8, the issue is still there.
We’ve also tested this on a clean BuddyPress site, with a default theme.
Thanks.
Hi Ravi,
Thanks for the update. It is now working again.
We have noticed that information from version 1.0.8 (after upgrading from 1.0.7) is still present in the database. Would it be safe to delete the private_message_rate_limiter_settings option from the wp_options table to clean up the database? Is there anything else that needs to be cleaned up?
Thanks.
