It’s not clear (to me) how this works, where you said:
#16165 ...MediaPress 1.4.0 ... also added support for direct link to raw file.
I’ve switched on all the settings under MediaPress->Settings->Remote_Media_Settings
If I post a YouTube, etc., link, the video/media is pulled really nicely!
If I post a simple URL in the activity feed pointing directly to an image file
remote_site/path/image.jpg
, (a direct link to a raw file), then this appears as a text/href link to the remote site. I was expecting this topull
the image to my site and convert it to a local link posted by this user. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Richard,
Thank you for posting. In the link box, Please paste the complete url of the image. Please do note that the link should be added via the link box(It will not recognize if you entered it in the activity post text area).
Please give it a try and let me know.
Regards
BrajeshAh, that might be the problem, I don’t see the link box.
Hi Richard,
I was referring tot his box.https://i.imgur.com/hv0jS30.png
Is it available to you? If yes, Please try adding a direct image via it.
Let me know how it goes.

Brajeshaha, I don’t see that box as a normal (contributor) user. However, I do see it as the admin user, implying some kind of role/capabilities mis-match. Is there a particular capability which must be assigned?
Hi Richard,
No, There is no such restriction. Please do visit the Dashboard->MediaPress->settings->General and see if there is anything seems strange under “Remote Media” section.
In every case, I have [yes] selected:
Remote Media Settings Control the remote media behaviour. Enable adding media through link? [Yes] No If No, It will completely turn off remote file and links features. Enable adding direct link to files from other sites? [Yes] No User will be add to remote files using direct url eg. http://example.com/hello.jpg Download the file to your server? [Yes] No When a user adds a remote file, should it be automatically downloaded to your server? We strongly recommend enabling it for photo. Enable oembed support? [Yes] No Allow users to add links(videos, photos) from youtube, vimeo, facebook etc easily.

Hi Richard,
Is there a chance that you have some customization for the upload form?In my case, I see the option for subscriber as well as other users too.
Ah, I think I see the problem. I have to click on the “Add Media” button FIRST, and only THEN does the add_remote_media_link field appear. Was not clear… closing.
(although I don’t understand why my admin could see the field in the first place. Never mind, not so important now.) Thanks Brajesh for the patience!
