Unable to respond to messages after activating BuddyPress Block Users

    Hi,
    For some reason when I activate the BuddyPress Block Users I lose the ability to respond to messages. I can still send original messages to the same user, but when I click on one, I can only read and not reply. This site had never had it installed and nobody has implemented this function yet. I haven’t tried it so nobody is blocked yet, as I just installed and activated it. I can see the messages of the one test member friend I have set up on this site and send them a new message, but if I try to respond to that one or any old ones, the “send reply” button just does not do anything. It doesn’t indicate anything’s blocked. If I deactivate Block Users, I can reply to conversations fine again. I didn’t uninstall everything to see if it’s a particular combination of plugins with this one, I just uninstalled the most recent things I’d activated until it started working again, and tested activating and deactivating Block Users to verify when I activate that one (on top of my current config) is when the quirk kicks in. Do you know what may be happening or what troubleshooting steps I can take without having to uninstall all my other current plugins to see what it may be interacting with? I checked the console and the only new error that pops up when Block Users is enabled and I click “Send Reply” is:
    [Error] Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error) (admin-ajax.php, line 0)
    Do you know where I’d start?
    Thank you!
    Aurelio

    Hello Aurelio,

    Sorry for the inconvenience. Interval server error 500 occurred when something went wrong on the server-side. Please enable debug mode on your server and share the error log.

    // Put this code before "That's all, stop editing! Happy publishing."

    // Set 'WP_DEBUG' to true.

    define( 'WP_DEBUG_LOG', true );
    define( 'WP_DISABLE_FATAL_ERROR_HANDLER', true );

    You can locate the error log in the “wp-content/debug.log” file.

    Regards
    Ravi

    Hi Aurelio

    Hope you are doing well.

    have you had any chance to look at the log? If yes, please share. We haven’t seen anything like this earlier, so we will need the log and your help to troubleshoot the issue.

    Thank you
    Brajesh

    Hi Brajesh,
    I apologize. I had email notifications checked and had been checking emails for a response but did not get any, and will check in case my spam filters ate the response. I just came back and saw this here. I moved that site to Better Messages, which is working just fine with Block Users enabled too. I don’t want to mess that site up since I have it working with Better Messages, and will test Block Users on a different site with debug enabled, and respond after testing to see if it happens on a new site with that config. It it happens again I’ll make sure the exact combination of plugins that was causing it this time too.
    Thank you!

    Thank you for the reply.

    The email notifications should have worked. Please do let me know if they went to spam?

    No issues with the change of the messaging system, if you find any issue in future, Please reply back and we will assist you.
