Introducing BuddyPress Group Customizer Lite : Allow group admins to change BuddyPress Group Background
Today, I am going to introduce you to the Group customizer lite plugin. It is a small plugin which allows group admins to change the background of a buddypress group. In other words, it does the same for groups as the BP Custom Background for User Profile does for user.
My special thanks to our members here for the idea to develop this for group and I will also like to convey my special thanks to James, who motivated me to do this.
This is a lite plugin and free . We have been working on a pro version of this plugin, which will give you full control over the appearances of your group(any no. of css/background changes) and that will be available by the month end.
For the time being, let us have a look at the plugin
Screenshots
Group Creation Tab:
It allows you to set a background during the Group creation
Group Page:
That's how the single group page looks like.
Group Admin Page:-
You can upload new background/delete background from the group admin->appearance page.
Here is a screenshot.
This plugin uses WordPress attachment for handling media and stores the attachment id in group meta using the meta key background_attachment. Just in case you decided to do more fun with the plugin.
Though, this is a very basic plugin I hope it will help a few of you to customize your community.

Please do let me know if it works for you or not or if you want us to improve this plugin. Looking forward to hear from you all 🙂
It's useful plugin. but website broke when delete image
Hi Nguyen,
what was the error? any screenshot?
Very useful plugin! How can I change the upload path of the images?
What I want is to put the images sent by users in a folder inside uploads folder.
Thanks
Sorry, as I replied to your other comment, the images are not uploaded in any separate folders. They are put in normal Uploads folder.
Hi! I'm trying to use this plugin but nothing happens when I install it, the appearances tab appears but not the option to upload background.
Hi,
Under the appearance tab, there will be a browse button. Please use that to browse and then click Save Changes.
The image will be uploaded and used.
The thing is, I don't see any browse button >o< see: http://gyazo.com/ede2d88b3ad834f2d4febcb1ca32897c
As I see you are using Buddies theme. It has something to do with there theme or some plugin, as I just tested it working with BuddyPress 1.7.3, are you using BuddyPress 1.7.3 or BuddyPress 1.8?
Oh! Do you think it could be because of that? I guess I will have to check the theme and the plugins and all @.@ ! I'm using buddypress 1.8
It seems that it does not work with common-in-the-box theme. Would you please let me know where do I need to modify and make it compatible with CBox theme ?
Hi,
Thank you for reporting. We will test and let you know some solution tomorrow. haven't tested with CBox theme.
Hi.
I am testing Your BP Background plugins in my site.
In BuddyPress Group Customizer Lite there is function bppg_get_image_repeat.
So there is question, could You add this kind of option also to Group Customizer?
Thanks.
Sorry this option is obviously in BP Custom Background For User Profile, so I'd like to have it also in BuddyPress Group Customizer Lite.
Is it possible?
Just a small bug I found. The plugin name is spelled wrong when you view it in the wordpress plugins page. It is missing an "s" in "customizer".
Otherwise it seams like a great plugin 🙂
Testing with Beaver Builder Theme and it doesn't work. Works with other themes just not this one.
Hi,
Thank you for posting. since it only happens with that specific theme, please contact the theme author for a solution. They should be able to able to help you.
Thank you
