@sbrajesh curious if you have had any requests for a widget to display the photos/media only for the particular group, and have that show only when person visits the group (not sitewide)? Is this clear?

Nice suggestion. though It can be done with a little bit of code, I am going to put a widget in 1-2 days. Current widgets does not allow single group level filtering.

Are you using the latest version of gallery? If yes, then it works with BuddyPress 1.2.9/WordPress 3.2. Incase you are using bp-default theme, the “gallery” folder will be lost in upgrade. So, you may need to reupload “gallery” folder to bp-default.
