This may be the most convoluted plugin I have ever dealt with. Seriously, when your instructions have screenshots of things that don’t exist … WTF.

In your support forum, there is no specific section dedicated to BuddyPress Group Tabs Creator Pro. I had to double-check to make sure I was on the correct website, as it appears that little effort has been to the plugin, product support, or this abysmal “forum.”

We’re building a sports-specific social media platform using BuddyBoss. All we need to do is rename a few BB tabs to reflect what the actual content is, and link to that content. And we have some dynamic content to link from a tab.

We have followed the instructions *to the letter* and it does not work. Period.

I figure at this point that we would need to create 16 sets of custom Group Tabs for each BB Group we have – and we have dozens of Groups. Do the math: each Group has four tabs that need to be customized; each of those tabs have four tabs that need to be mapped – 4×4=16 new tabs that need to be created PER GROUP.

For New York? 16 new tabs. Los Angeles? 16 more. Dallas? 16. Chicago? 16. Atlanta? Another 16.

We are doing the 20 largest markets in the USA.

    Twenty markets multiplied by 16.

That’s 320 new tabs we need to create manually – and the instructions are pure garbage.

    ⭐ out of 10, 50, 100 or 50,000 stars. Awful.

    Hi David,
Thank you for purchasing from us.

I understand your experience and your frustration caused.

The plugin has been available for more than 8 years and we moved servers during that time, I apologize if the instruction links broke down, will appreciate pointing to them(we will check ourselves as well) to fix them.

We have 100+ plugins(free and paid) and it is not feasible to have dedicated section for group tab, the forum acts as a way to provide support for all. All you need to do is select “Plugins”.

I agree that the user experience with this plugin is not great and that is how the whole ecosystem around BuddyPress worked at that time(lack of integration). Within a month, you would see what we have done about it.

For your use case, you could easily get away for quiet small number of tabs using dynamic content. Here is a link.
    https://buddydev.com/docs/buddypress-group-tabs-creator-pro/creating-dynamic-content-with-buddypress-group-tabs-creator/

All our plugins were developed in response to user/developer demands at that time and were mostly suited for developers, so it is a bit uncomfortable for users(we recognised that couple of years ago and that’s why we decided to create a whole new platform to solve the experience. It will be available soon and you will see the difference, it is not feasible to fix these old ui’s the way we want without breaking existing system, so we created something very different. This is just for information ).

Let me know if you need any assistance in setting up those tabs with dynamic content.

    Regards
    Brajesh

    Brajesh,

Seriously, thank you for your calm, measured response. I appreciate it.

On paper (or, at least, on electronic paper) this is the perfect plugin for what we have in mind. In practice … we spent more time being disappointed, as we knew that BPGTCP *could* do what we wanted – it’s in the instructions! – but it just wasn’t happening.

We went so far as to have Claude review your instructions and explain them to us in even more minute detail – but Claude got lost, too!

I will mention that the one dynamic tab that we created is the one that works best. But it only works as a subnav, because we couldn’t figure out how to do dynamic content on a *standard* group tab.

I appreciate your offer of assistance. I know that you have your own job to do, but I truly appreciate it!

    DJ
