[Resolved] Has this site been hacked? I am spammed through this website!

    Hi,

    I registered 8 months ago, but was never active, didn’t do/post anything.

    This morning I received the following message from “Esther”:
    “Hello,its my pleasure to contact you,after going through your profile,i am looking for a honest person,and i think i have found you, you can get me back through my email (Eatherwiliam@hotmail.com) as soon as possible ,so that i will tell you better about my self and also send to you picture,please do not reply me here in this site,just write to my email ok.
    Eatherwiliam@hotmail.com”

    Esther is unknown on this website, page 404.

    Have other people the same experience?

    Hi Eddy,
    My apologies for the inconvenience to you and others.

    We were not hacked.
    A user registered and started spamming our activity stream. We noticed it but by then, they had sent spam to around 15 users.

    We marked the user as spam, so all their activity was removed. That’s why you are seeing 404.

    I too received this,
    I know you’ve added the user as a spammer,
    But, the comment still remains, is that normal?

    It’s strange, the comment should have been removed when I marked the user as spammer. Can you please link me to the comment?

    Thank you. Both of you. My initial estimate from the spammer’s profile was incorrect. I went through the activity list and I can see that they spammed around 600 posts today.

    I am very sorry. Going to add own own activity rate limiter this weekend to avoid such incident in future.

    I sincerely appreciate all of you for helping me find and fix the issue.
    I am thankful to all of you and our community for bearing with us during this inconvenient experience.

    It should not happen in future and even if someone tries to spam us in future, their efforts will be not much fruitful.
