    Hey guys,

I just bought Member Types Pro and played around with it a bit. I like what I see so far but now I have run into a bit of an issue. I have an existing community of paying members and free users which are using member type fields to distinguish their background, e.g. between students, consultants etc.

Now I though it would be great to also have a directory specifically for my paying members. Thus I have set up an additional member types field and linked that in the backend to the Members role which is automatically set for paying members through Memberpress. However, when the process to update the role is run it changes the role for both member type fields – the background and the member status field!

Is there any chance to link the routine to a specific member type field, so that it doesn’t override existing value in the other one?

    Thanks so much in advance.

    Kind regards, Philip

    Hi Philip,
Thank you for using the plugin.

My apologies for the delayed reply. I have been travelling and we are moving our office from 30th April. It has caused some delay in our forum support.

Yes, It is doable. Since we allow selecting(including/excluding member type in the field option), It can be achieved. Please allow me till 2nd/3rd April to update the plugin with it.

    Thank you
    Brajesh

    Dear @sbrajesh,

no problem. Thanks for looking into this for me, highly appreciated! Looking forward to the new version then 🙂

On an unrelated note: I am also using your group activity notifier plugin which works great! However, when a user posts an activity in a group, others clicking on the activity notification will be redirected to that user’s private activity wall. I was wondering whether it would be possible to redirect users instead to the respective group activity stream – which would make more sense in my mind?

Thanks so much in advance 🙂

    Kind regards, Philip

    Hi Philip,
I am sorry to keep you waiting. Was trying to clear the backlog due to last weeks delays caused by office move.

    1. For member types update, please allow me till Sunday.
    2. Thank you for using Group activities notifier. I will check it today and will have a solution/update for you today.

    Regards
    Brajesh

    Hi Phillip,
    Thank you for the reply.

    1. For member types, I was able to fix the updating of profile fields when a non included member type changes.
    2. I still need to work on a strategy to do the member type update when field changes. We do not want the field change to affect user’s member type(which are not governed by this field). I am working on a strategy for this and hopefully will have a release today.

    3. For Group Activities notifier, I could not reproduce it. Can you please tell me how to reproduce it? Visiting a group and posting activity, the notification takes to single activity screen. This is the correct behaviour.
What you are seeing here is not the personal feed, It should be single activity permalink page. Please recheck.

    Thank you
    Brajesh

    Dear Brajesh,

thanks for your message. On 3. Whenever someone posts an activity in the group, if I click on the “view activity” I am taken indeed to a single post view of that post but on the user’s activity wall, not on the group wall – which is probably the correct behavior as you designed it.

In my mind however it would make a lot more sense to take the user who clicked on the notification to the post in the context of the group in which it was posted. E.g. if I get a notification about a new post in a let’s say facebook group, I am also taken to that group and not to that users profile.

    Kind regards, Philip

    Hi Phil,
    Thank you.
I do understand that your expectations are right but BuddyPress treats single item this way. You can check this by visiting a group and posting an activity and then clicking on the view link of that activity.

For single activity, group does not have an end point and it goes to user specific single page.

We do bring people to a group if there are more than 1 notifications from a group(we simply point them to groups activity stream).
In case of single activity, pointing to permalink seems reasonable to me.

If you want, I can point to the group activity stream.

Please do note that unlike Facebook, BuddyPress groups does not have single activity end point(does not handle single activity permalink).

    Regards
    Brajesh

    Dear Brajesh,

thanks for the explanation and yes, I thought that it might be due to such a limitation. In that case I still think it would be better to bring the user to the group wall instead of the single post entry. How do I change that? 🙂

    Kind regards, Philip
