Like you found it earlier, you can see the issue with Classic Editor.
BuddyBlog uses TinyMCE(which comes with WordPress) and the issue comes from the editor itself( You already saw that before activating block editor).
We do not support the block editor yet and I hope that we will support it in future. The block editor was introduced in WordPress 5.0 and I don’t know if we will be able to use it on front end(we are using wp_editor() which loads tiny mce) yet. We will need to explore it in future.
For now, unless the issue is fixed in tinymce/WordPress core, we are unable to do anything about it(we can provide the option to use regular texarea as a posting box).
