[Resolved] No preview available to PDFs PPTs DOCs

    Hi,

    I am facing issue to google doc viewer for PDFs, PPTs and DOCs. Gets error “No preview available”. For me it is mandatory to provide the view of those files. I have already checked in doc.php and found everything OK for https and httpd URL.

    Kindly provide an alternative, I don’t want to download those files as attachments.

    Please assist.

    Hi Matt,
    Welcome to BuddyDev.

    is there a chance that you are testing it on a local install? Google Doc needs the document to be available on web and will not work for local documents.

    It is possible to replace the viewer with something else but at the moment, we don’t have any alternative. We will keep looking for the alternative and add support in core or as addon in future.

    For now, Let us get the Google Viewer working for you.

    Hi Brajesh,

    Thanks for your quick reply.
    I am using on live website, its not local install. I had to disable Google Doc viewer and install Google Doc Embedder which is opening PDF files only.

    Now one more issue I am facing is, I am not able to upload PPTs, I thought it is supported. Check screenshot: https://prnt.sc/ko8m04

    Kindly assist.

    Hi Matt,
    Glad you found another way for it.

    To add more extensions, please visit dashboard->MediaPress->settings->General and you will see the list of extensions allowed for doc. Please add ppt, pptx to that.

    Hi Brajesh,

    Though we are using a live server but to for the development we are adding entries to our hosts files, so that the website will work from that system. I think this is the reason google doc viewer is not working. Does it calls the system path of the respective uploaded document to view? Or it requires the URL of the uploaded file to view.

    Thank you.

    The google doc viewer uses url for the purpose. That’s why it is not working on the local development.
