[Resolved] Mediapress comments and Activity Feed comments

    hi Brajesh,

    I’m using MediaPress v1.4.4 and have issues with the media comments and how they are processed via the feed. The situation is so:

    1. A comment on the single media page appears also in the feed (good).

    2. A comment on the media via the feed does *not* appear on the single media page (bad).

    3. The lightbox comments are removed on my site as non-relevant (just FYI).

    This is a major problem as users rightfully expect to see comments made on media in the feed to be reflected on the (single page) media itself. We’ve discussed this before (see below), but I’m hoping we can resolve this as it’s quite important for the site.

    Does the comments made on media appear on the parent gallery page?

    Nope. From the media, the comment goes to the activity, but *not* to the gallery page.

    Please do share a screenshot(from activity page showing the media/comment in the activity). That will give me some idea.
    We do have issues with our commenting system, I am just trying to guess the correct reason.

    Hi Richard,
    Thank you.

    I see that it is from media comment to activity comment sync. It is an issue as we don’t have one activity per media. I am going to think about it a bit today.

    If we move to one parent activity per media, we can easily fix it but there will be issues when the parent activity gets deleted.

    hi Brajesh,

    I’m pleased to hear “easily fix”, but I’m not sure I quite understand.

    It seems to me that media->comment->activity sync is working just fine.

    The problem is in activity->comment->media which does not work at all. If that makes it clearer?

    Certainly I can also see that having one parent activity (slot) per media, (via mpp-meta presumably?), would help to solve this. Details notwithstanding 🙂

    Thank you.

    The problem is when you comment on a media from media page or the lightbox, we create a new activity instead of activity comment.

    So each of these are activities on their own(should appear in activity as such).

    If we create these as the comment of one parent activity, any comment from media/lightbox will sync to the activity stream. The problem is new comments don’t make the activity to be pushed as new in BuddyPress.

    In other words, the comments will sync in that case but the visibility of activity item (position) in the stream won’t change.

    hi Brajesh,

    if I understand you correctly the problem will change, to one where we need to *bump* the activity in the stream. If at this point we have meshed activity->comment->media (and back) sync, then the risk is very worth taking and the next problem can be dealt with.

    There’s a plugin which may be able to assist with your concern/s (if we’re talking about the same thing).

    so what I mean is that if you fix the activity->comment->media issue, then I think we very nearly have a fully working system.

    The position of the activity in the stream is a side-show.
