It is easily doable. We have the code posted somewhere in the forum. I will try to search and link and may be I will give an option in the future to enable it from the dashboard.
The problem with options is how to we word the setting names and avoid confusion.

The plugin does not check for gravatar.
If you are getting a lot of spam users, I will suggest using this plugin otherwise you may disable it.

MediaPress media is just WordPress attachment and always available to the users like any normal uploaded media.
I understand that providing a more organized view will be nice but it is not on our development map(since we don’t consider it a must have feature).
