Thank you for confirming that it works.For your second question:- It depends on your theme. If you are using our theme, you can set it from Wp-admin->Appearance->Customize->BuddyPress->Activity panel.
for other themes, you may use the following code

Hi Irene,
Thank you for the question.the easiest way to do it will be by using member types.
You can use PMPro to assign member types to user and on the profile field(add/edit field) screen, you can make it available to only limited member types.
That should solve your issue. I believe you are already using our member types pro, that should take care of registering member types.
