Here is what I think.
You need the text field(edit view) for the number and on the display context, you can link to the generated whatsapp url.
You may want to check our BuddyPress Xprofile Custom Field Types plugin(code to see how we implement the field types) for the same.

To target the img element. You can put the dimension etc there as you please. By default, we do not set any dimension for the image.
