I am glad it worked.The solution seems good but it might not work in older browsers. That’s why I avoided suggesting it. You can use the same with moderation tools too.
Make sure to set line-height:0 !important too to avoid white space issue.

Thank you for the topic.1. We already support rich text editor out of the box.
At the moment, we do not support inline image.
We are about to release BuddyBlog 2(anytime this month) which works without BP Simple Front end post and allows creating structured content/articles(if desired).It still needs a lot of work as we plan to support multiple post types and a few more things. I have got one of our members to test the structured feature(creating extra fields for content post/edit) and it was good.
When I release it this month, I will be looking at adding inline image upload support(most probably adding support for a 3rd party plugin).
