Welcome to BuddyDev.It mostly depend on your theme and the instructions will be specific to the theme.
Can you please point me to the theme you are using and does your theme come with BuddyPress compatibility?

Thank you for posting.Like I mailed you, It is caused by your theme. Your theme is using a transformation which is preventing the video from going fullscreen. I have mentioned in the mail.

Welcome to BuddyDev.It is most probably working but may not be appearing like that.
BuddyPress uses cookies to keep track of the last visited tab/filter on directory and in case you have selected something else, The new default wont be used.
I will suggest checking in a different browser or clearing the cookie and then checking it.

You are right about two things:-
1. The popular users widget provided by this plugin did not hide users
2. The visitors component were visible to everyone(It seems to be a bug from 1.5 where we added the panels)I have fixed both of these here in 1.5.2
