Hi Joss,
It seems that you are applying conditional registration on the fields.
If that is the case, Please make sure that if a field is hidden by conditions, It must not be marked as required.
That should make it work.

The hide/show on focus is managed by BuddyPress.
If you can tell me which template pack and theme you are using, I can point to the code and help you how to disable that.

Do you mean they do not appear on the Profile edit page ?
If yes, Are you using Member types or any plugin/code to hide some fields conditionally?
