About the issue with 2 names. I have done it for client in past it id possible to do away with the username part.The problem that you will face is:-
1. Unpredictable usernames(which is used in the url slug, mentions)
2. Or you will need to define some mechanism for usernames(for example on one of the site we used the 2 letter short name + 8 integers random integer for generating unique username)The same can be done with the Messages. You can create the subject transparently and do away with the limitations.
There are no ready to use solutions available for the same. Most probably I will find some time and post some blogs about these two.

You are welcome.About Conditional profile field groups, I am sorry but this plugin is unable to help with that. It is possible to do so but it is complex with BuddyPress.

Hi Thorsten,
Thank you for posting.Have you updated the plugin settings from Dashboard->Settings->FB Like Activity settings? Please enable where you want the change to apply.
It can add a tab to your profile(Your Stream tab under activity) that shows your/friends/groups activity or you can enable the same on directory.
Please let me know if you have already tried that or if changing the settings works for you or not?
