Welcome to BuddyDev support forums.The Auto join Group plugin can help you achieve the first part. It works with Roles/Member types, so should work fine with RCP.
It does not sync users on removal from group. We have member types pro that does it but it won’t work with BuddyBoss.

The first snippet limits display and not store and the second snippet you have shared has limited scope.What is your goal with it.Do you want to limit(truncate) description before saving or do you want to show error if a user posts more than ‘n’ characters?

Hope you are doing well.
I had a look at the code and the 2 possible reasons for the issue are:-1. Either GD is disabled on the server
2. Or the image selected for watermarking(in the admin settings) has issueIf you have GD enabled, can you please try changing a different image for watermark(in the admin settings) to see if it works or not?
