My apologies for the inconvenience.
The posting/commenting to activity is theme dependent. We do not provide any posting functionality. It is the theme that does. The Facebook Like activity stream just filters when listing activities.Are you using a free or premium theme? Can you please ask your theme developer about the issue and let me know what they say?

A few months ago I had posted a tutorial showing how to do it with uploadplus plugin.The upload rename plugin is new compared to that and I haven’t looked at it.

I am sorry but I just tested on WordPress Multisite 4.5.3, BuddyPress 2.6.1.1 and BuddyPress Message Privacy 1.0.8. All network active.
It is working fine.Could it be a conflict with the rate limiter plugin?

For BP Limit Friendship Request & Rate Limiter, Please visit Network Admin->Setings->BuddyPress->Settings and at the bottom of that page you will see the settings.Please do let me know if that is available or not?
