Hi Tosin,
BuddyPress does not track mentions in a specific way. On the mentions tab, It searches for the string and lists the activity containing them. For the time being, there is not a good way to make it part of the stream unless the activity was created by friends, in user groups etc.

Please disable ARMember temporarily and test it. My assumption is that plugin is adding extra restrictions or redirects leading to the issue.PS:- Do you have a staging site(let us avoid testing on the live site) where I can try these?

Please inform them of the exact issue you are facing. Let them know that the oEmbed field is not working as expected and the developer says that the size of oEmbed field is controlled via theme.Also, link them to the link I shared above.
Please do let me know if they have any suggestions for us to implement in the plugin.
