Hi Kathy,
This is expected behaviour in the current version.BuddyBoss plugin determines an embed only at the time of posting and uses separate meta for keeping the embeded item details.
To avoid issues, we have disabled editing for activities with embeds in it as we could not send the meta.

As a user, you should not worry about wp_kses.Can you please confirm if this is happening in the isolated BuddyPress/BuddyBlog setup with default theme too?

Thank you for the question.My suggestion will be to register a nav location(WordPress nav)
https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/register_nav_menu/and then using BuddyPress nav items(You can enable it from screen options on the menu page).
That will save you any custom coding.

Is that only happening for cusotm tabs added via profile tabs plugin or is that a normal selected tab on your site?
