MediaPress Featured Content is tested to work with MediaPress 1.4.3 and it is not affected by BuddyPress. If it is not working, Something might have changed at your site.

AS far as Extended Friendship is concerned, I will need to test it today and get back to you.

It happens because the theme specifically adds css to override the color for activity button. You can see that by inspecting in browser.

Other buttons inherit the common style they have for button.

Your color settings in customizer is overriding the default colors. If you want, I can copy the rules for your activity button and put there to make it look similar.
